The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing the scale and effectiveness of impact investing, has launched IRIS 4.0, an upgraded version of the IRIS catalogue of generally accepted social, environmental and financial performance metrics used by impact investors to measure and manage the performance of their investments.

The new catalogue:

  • includes 559 metrics – from which investors can choose a subset of metrics according to what performance data matters most to inform their investment goals;
  • includes amplified and additional usage guidance to assist with interpretation;
  • includes a new metric component – the footnote – with the intent of driving towards additional contextual clarity and consistency in data reported about investees or projects.

IRIS 4.0 represents the work and inputs of sector experts, advisors, users, and third party standard setters, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and B Lab, as well as industry groups like the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA), the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF), the Council on Smallholder Agricultural Finance (CSAF) and the Finance Alliance for Sustainable Trade (FAST).
