Colombo Social

Founded in 2019, Colombo Social is a successful social enterprise restaurant in the Sydney suburb of Enmore, working with refugee-support agencies to recruit recently arrived asylum seekers and refugees to work in the kitchen or front of house. Using food as their catalyst for change, Colombo Social is committed to the education, training, participation and employment of vulnerable community members, specifically culturally and linguistically diverse communities and those experiencing cycles of unemployment.

Colombo Social’s programs create long-term, meaningful social change, reduce disadvantage, strengthen social cohesion and increase engagement in healthy living and community building.

Colombo Social has donated more than 40,000 meals directly to these communities.

Scaling impact

With the support of a $30,000 Resilience Grant, Colombo Social sought assistance from Social Impact Hub to help with Board strategy work, impact measurement and reporting, and the articulation of an investor proposition. Through these capacity building activities, Colombo Social has received tailored advice on gearing their business for significant growth through impact investments.
